Many economists expect the Bank to remain cautious through 2026 as inflation and economic uncertainty persist.<br><br>As of July 2026, the City of Toronto\u2019s average monthly rent for an unfurnished one-bedroom dropped YoY by $87, reaching a new average of $1,961\/month.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<br><h2 id=\"month-to-month\">Ontario rent trends<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to last month, the average rent price for an unfurnished one-bedroom unit in Toronto decreased by $9 this July to $1,961\/month. This July, <a href=\"https:\/\/liv.rent\/rental-listings\/city\/toronto\/downtown-core\/\">Downtown<\/a> ($2.81\/sq. ft.) had the highest rent per square foot. For renters, these numbers show which types of units you&#8217;re most likely to encounter in the Greater Toronto Area, while for landlords, you can assess how much competition you&#8217;ll face based on the current supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br><h3 style=\"color: #fe5f55\">Active listings by property type<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As of July 2026, the most common rental property type was apartments, representing the vast majority of active listings in the GTA at 94.96%. One-bedroom units were the most common type of listing in the GTA this month at 50.33%, while two-bedroom units represented 41.42% of the region&#8217;s active listings. Looking at these additional cities, London is the least expensive to rent in July for one-bedroom unfurnished units at $1,487\/month. Investing in manual data collection means that we only consider the current month\u2019s listing, since we can filter out duplicate listings and older ads that haven\u2019t been removed. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Another key difference between our data collection methods and some government agencies like the CMHC is that we only include current asking rent prices.
