At last, we have a variety of rent payment options available to tenants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Every tenancy agreement should specify the acceptable forms<\/strong> of rent payment. The e-transfer option has grown in popularity thanks to the ease of use and lack of paper required. Currently, there are 4 ways to pay your landlord in BC:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>E-transfer<\/strong> &#8211; A log of all e-transfers will be electronically stored for your records and your landlords.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cash<\/strong> &#8211;  When paying by cash, the landlord MUST provide a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tenantsbc.ca\/images\/Rent%20Receipt.pdf\">rent receipt<\/a> proving the rent was paid. Both landlords and tenants should keep copies of these receipts for their records.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cheque<\/strong> &#8211; Typically, your banking records and bookkeeping will offer sufficient record of rent payments paid by cheque.* <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Credit Card<\/strong> &amp; <strong>UnionPay<\/strong> &#8211; When using the liv.rent app, you can pay by UnionPay, American Express, MasterCard or Visa (via <a href=\"https:\/\/stripe.com\/en-ca\">Stripe <\/a>payment gateway).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bitcoin<\/strong> &#8211; Renters on liv.rent can pay for rent with <a href=\"https:\/\/liv.rent\/blog\/2021\/05\/how-to-pay-for-rent-with-bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"bitcoin (opens in a new tab)\">bitcoin<\/a>. The bitcoin payment process is very similar to how you pay rent with credit cards or UnionPay on liv.rent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sign up <a href=\"https:\/\/liv.rent\/blog\/unionpaysignup\/\">here<\/a> to receive the latest release news on this new payment option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>*As a reminder, post-dated cheques can ONLY be requested as long as it\u2019s a term included in the agreement and can only be for the duration of the lease term (i.e. one year&#8217;s worth of cheques).  If a tenancy ends earlier, all uncashed cheques must be returned to the tenant.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Pay using liv.rent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Landlords and tenants love that they can currently make rent payments in liv.rent, using a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) as well as UnionPay. These paperless ways to pay rent help both landlords and tenants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>manage cash flow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>avoid missed payments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and for tenants, provides an opportunity to collect credit card points and, in turn, enjoy certain privileges and offers associated with the credit card. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is how to pay by Credit Card in the liv.rent app:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. From the <strong>Payment Method<\/strong> drop-down list, select the preferred method of payment.  Select <strong>continue<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Input card details and billing address. A summary of <strong>Payment Details<\/strong> including newly entered credit card information will display.  This will include a processing fee. The tenant can click on the \u24d8  Info icon to open a pop-up window displaying <strong>processing fee details<\/strong>. If everything is correct, the tenant must agree to Terms &amp; Conditions (checkbox) and click <strong>Pay Now<\/strong> to complete payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. A payment completed window will display. An option to export the payment confirmation will allow tenants to save a copy or email a <strong>rent receipt<\/strong> to themselves. If this isn&#8217;t the case, you will end up paying service fees, and interest on your credit card &#8211; in essence, increasing your rent payment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have no consumer debt.
