Pride Prep – Unfurl Your Freak Flag

2018 marks the 40th anniversary of Vancouver’s Pride Festival. Running August 3-5th , this fabulous celebration of love, tolerance and the LGBTQ2+ community culminates in a glorious Sunday parade that snakes through the West End – Robson to Davie to Beach Avenue. Yes, it’s time for Pride weekend 2018!

Leading up to this are countless events organized by Pride Vancouver. We’ve distilled it down to a few unique experiences we think are worth checking out.

Vancouver Pride Queerprov Outstanding Comedy


Genderless Benderless kicks off some Queerprov Outstanding Comedy shows, July 23, 30 & August 3 at 8pm @XY


Forbidden Vancouver presents The Really Gay History Tour. Walk through Vancouver’s Gay Neighbourhood and hear stories about Vancouver’s gay history including police raids, Granville Street’s “Kiss-in” and the gayest beer parlour in town. Tours happen everyday during Pride at 2 pm. For more information


Get kitted out in your best Pride gear at the Pump-Jack, Pork-Pies, Pre-Pride, Party-Pump, Pop-Up Shop, July 26 @6pm at the Pumpjack Pub on Davie St.

Spice Up Your Life

On July 31st, Fresh Air Cinema screens Spice World at 8:50 pm at Second Beach, Stanley Park as a Pride Kick off event.

Make It Last Forever

After the movie, head to Celebrities #celebstues Pride 2018 Kick-Off for an epic evening of high energy fun.

Shante You Stay

Head to Pride@Parq on August 3rd for Cocktails, Canapes and Queens.  Kim Chi & Pearl, from RuPaul’s drag race, emcee activities while Berlin-based DJ Dickey Doo spins beats into the wee hours. Buy tickets here

It is that glorious time of year when telling someone to let their freak flag fly isn’t just a metaphorical piece of advice for authentic living, but rather a practical instruction for participating in Pride activities. Wear your rainbow colours and get out there and enjoy!
